Why Your Role Matters:

As a Senior Data Engineer with UNSW Planning and Performance, you will assist in the planning, coordination and delivery of the Azure data platform infrastructure and end to end development of the Azure Data Lake.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will work closely with the Senior Manager, Data Platforms to support the delivery of complex projects, system enhancements and business process improvements whilst working closely with colleagues and UNSW stakeholders to ensure quality service delivery.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will provide subject matter expertise and advice as well as manage and participate in system integration and performance testing to ensure system integrity. You will have the opportunity to provide leadership in projects and proactively identify areas of business improvement through analysis methodologies.

The Senior Data Engineer reports to the Senior Manager, Data Platforms, and has one direct report.

Who You Are:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Strong technical and computing skills (specifically including Office 365, MS Excel, and databases), with excellent attention to detail as well as strong technical ability in the use of SQL, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Python, Pyspark analysis services, and presentation skills in data visualisation and presentation tools (e.g., Power BI).
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating and delivering on strategic activities in a complex environment, ideally within higher education.
  • High level project management, analysis, research, planning and advisory skills and experience, combined with creative problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to establish highly effective and collaborative working relationships and initiate change using high level interpersonal, influencing, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced project management skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent complex projects (end to end), and provide high-level advice and review and re-engineer complex systems and processes.
  • Demonstrated high level critical thinking and analytical skills.
